Micro-Needling 101

A Collagen Booster for Your Skin!

There are so many treatments available out there for enhancing the look and feel of your skin, so how do you know which one is right for you? At The Cosmetic Clinic we offer a range of skin treatments that all have their own unique benefits and specialise in improving and enhancing certain aspects of your skin. The best way to know for sure what you need, is to book in for a complimentary consultation so our expert and highly trained team can assess your individual needs. However, it also pays to come to your consultation with a little knowledge. So, let’s take a closer look at one of our treatments on offer – Micro-Needling.

Micro-Needling is a procedure that uses tiny needles to treat skin concerns such as scarring, sun spots, fine lines and wrinkles, and stretch marks. It’s also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, which is a great way to understand exactly what Micro-Needling does – it induces the production of collagen. It also rejuvenates the overall appearance and texture of your skin and is most often used on the face.

So, how does it actually work?

The process is quite simple. The pen-like tool that is used consists of a grouping of tiny needles, so small that you won’t even notice any visible signs of the pin-pricks after the procedure. The needles prick the skin, making the minutest of injuries. These insignificant injuries then work to heal and boost the production of collagen, resulting in healthy, rejuvenated tissue. The procedure is minimally invasive, very quick, and relatively painless. Plus, the treatment is safe for most people and most skin types, however, do check with your doctor if you are pregnant or are on acne medication.

Does it hurt?

Most people experience very little pain with Micro-Needling and in many cases, there’s only mild discomfort. Some areas of the face might be more sensitive than others, but overall, it is a relatively tolerable procedure. Afterwards, there may be slight itching or discomfort and redness for a matter of days. This is a totally normal reaction and is due to the tiny injuries that promote the healing and collagen and elastin regeneration.

What is the healing time?

The great thing about Micro-Needling is that there is limited downtime. Most clients will experience a little redness, and in a few cases a tiny bit of pinpoint bleeding, but these both dissipate fairly quickly and within a couple of hours most clients are back to normal with glowing, silky smooth skin. It is important to note that every person is different, so redness and bleeding will vary depending on your own unique skin type. For the best results, a series of treatments is recommended, especially if you are choosing Micro-Needling to help combat scars from acne, age spots, large pores, fine lines and wrinkles, and other scarring. If you are not too concerned with any of these issues, the procedure is a great booster to help give your skin a stunning, fresh-as-a-daisy, overall youthful and vibrant appearance.

What happens after my treatment?

After your treatment, your clinician will apply a topical product from our beautiful Balense range to soothe and deeply penetrate the skin to promote a healthier, vibrant glow and to make the most of the healing process. This is the perfect time to really utilise our deeply hydrating and intensive Boost and Hydrate serums and moisturisers from Balense Skincare. Ask our team which Balense products are best for your skin type. Your skin starts working immediately to rejuvenate new tissue and you will see some results instantly, however for the best results, you may need multiple sessions.
