Micro-Needling 101

We often get a LOT of questions about micro-needling. “How does it work?”, “what are the benefits?” and “when can I see results?” are some of your most burning questions and we’re here to answer all of them (and more!)

Micro-needling is your go-to treatment for firmer, smoother skin. Also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, it’s a pretty incredible treatment that’s able to stimulate the growth of collagen and elastin. It can leave you with dreamy, glowing skin PLUS it can help reduce scarring, stretch marks, blackheads, open pores, fine lines, hyper pigmentation and more!

As you can see, it’s a bit of an all-round superstar treatment! Keep reading for all our frequently asked questions about micro-needling.

How does it work?

Micro-Needling treatments are done using the Dermapen 4 Micro-Needling device. This amazing technology gently punctures the skin, opening thousands of tiny micro-channels and stimulating the deeper layers of your skin. This stimulates the healing response of the deeper layers of your skin and encourages your skin to make new, collagen-rich tissue.

When will I see results?

As with all of our treatments, individual results will vary. Results will greatly depend on what you’re treating. Micro-needling can help with an array of issues such acne scarring, ageing concerns and stretch marks, so naturally, each person is different. Usually, after a micro-needling treatment, you’ll experience a little redness for 24-48 hours after your treatment before the healing begins and your skin will start to glow!

What are the benefits?

1. Reduce imperfections. Micro-needling promotes the production of collagen and elastin through the natural auto-repair mechanisms of the skin, reducing the appearance of imperfections.

2. Increased effectiveness of active ingredients. Micro-needling transports the active ingredient from your treatment into the deepest layers of the skin, essentially enhancing the product effectiveness instantaneously.

3. Improved communication between skin cells. Sends out signals that increase the communications between the cells responsible for maintaining the barrier function, pigmentation, collagen and elastin in the skin.

How often should I get treatments?

Typically, we recommend a minimum of 3 treatments for visible results but your Dermal Technician will let you know what’s best for you, your skin, and what you’re trying to achieve. After your first treatment, we’d expect to see a little redness for 24 – 48 hours post treatment and then your new, glowing skin will start to reveal itself! Clients can have treatments every 2 – 6 weeks depending on the results they would like to achieve, your clinician can recommend the best treatment plan for you.
