6 Things You Might Not Know About Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers – what are they? What do they do? Should I get them?

Despite their increasing popularity, there is still a bit of mystery around these cosmetic injectable treatments. During lockdown, we ran a Q&A session on Instagram all about injectables and the response was HUGE! We’ve recognized the need for a more detailed blog post to answer and go over all your questions and hopefully shed some light!

Dermal Fillers are derived from a synthesised hyaluronic acid which is a naturally occurring sugar in your body. They can last from 6 months to two years depending on the application, the area, the amount used and the persons unique physical makeup. Different fillers are designed to be used in different areas of the face and at The Cosmetic Clinic, our registered nurse cosmetic injectors know exactly what goes where!

Dermal fillers are designed to help enhance natural features by adding volume to certain areas of your face. This can include the lips, cheeks or defining the jawline. And adding volume doesn’t always necessarily mean plump luscious lips.

Benefits can include improved facial symmetry, restored facial volume, enhanced cheekbones, creating contour and definition and giving your cheeks a lift. Adding the right amount of filler can also fill out lines and wrinkles around the eyes, mouth and jawline. And, yes, of course there’s the plump, juicy defined lips! But there is so much you can do with dermal fillers that many clients don’t realize. Curious? Continue reading to find out more!

Can injectables help remove fat from cheeks, jawline and the neck area?

Yes! Our injectables can help decrease the submental fat in all those areas. If you have stubborn fat areas on your face and are unsure of how to get rid of it, we have a solution for you! We use a product called Belkyra which will help tighten and firm your skin. Belkyra is a synthetic version of deoxycholic acid, which is different to a dermal filler. It can reduce submental fullness in a double chin but is not used for other areas. It works by dissolving the fat cells and, when used in conjunction with 2mls of filler, can give a more defined jaw line.

Dermal filler, when injected into certain areas of the face, can be used to contour, shape and give the appearance of slimming by pulling back and giving lift.

Did you know the injectable Dysport can be injected into the muscle and stop teeth grinding?

Our technicians love performing this on our clients as the results can be life changing. If you are having trouble with teeth grinding in your sleep or in general, we strongly advise you to consider this treatment. Teeth grinding can take a toll on your teeth and can have some side effects including headaches. Our clients have come back with very positive comments after trying this treatment.

Can injectables help with hooded eyelids?

Absolutely! Depending on the severity, results can vary. Hooded eyelids are when you have extra fat that droops over the crease of your eye, causing the lid to look smaller. Here at The Cosmetic Clinic, we can lift and open the eye, helping to eliminate that hooded look.

Can injectables help with gummy smiles?

Yes! Our injectables can help reduce the gum shown in your smile, highlighting those gorgeous teeth of yours instead. We have our ‘Lips Re-defined’ package that can include treatment for gummy smiles at an everyday price of only $499, but as always treatments can be adjusted to the amount needed for you and your lips specifically. This can also be achieved with anti-wrinkle injections as well in cases where dermal filler is not ideal.

How long does ‘Botox’ last?

First of all, it’s really important to understand that ‘Botox’ is a brand name for an anti-wrinkle treatment. At The Cosmetic Clinic we use another brand similar to Botox called Dysport. Dysport essentially does the same thing as Botox. The different brands have slight variations, but they both temporarily relax the muscle, reducing the appearance of wrinkles or fine lines. So, how long does it last? In both cases, this depends on the amount used and placement, but generally 3-4 months. Some clients with very fast metabolisms or who exercise a lot may find they burn through the product faster.

How is Dysport different from Botox?

Derived from the same FDA approved ingredients, they are pretty much the same – they have simply been developed by different companies. Overall, both work in the same way, softening your frown lines, forehead lines, and helping to reduce crow’s feet.

Our injectors have all undertaken specialist training and are highly qualified. Here at The Cosmetic Clinic, your safety is our number one priority.
