Lumixa elevates your standard LED treatment to the next level, effectively addressing a variety of skin concerns. Developed by Biotech company FB Dermatology, Lumixa is a topical gel that uses advanced technology activated by blue LED light. This process triggers a chemical change in the skin cells, producing Fluorescent Light Energy (FLE). Lumixa is a non-invasive treatment with no downtime, designed to support the correction and prevention of inflammageing, and reduce the signs of the natural ageing process.
There are two types of Lumixa Light Therapy, and your expert therapist will recommend the best option for your skin.
What is Fluorescent Light Energy (FLE)
FLE is a hyper-pulsed light, targeting multiple layers of the skin at once. FLE stimulates biological processes in the skin to activate the skin’s own regeneration methods. FLE helps in controlling and minimising redness, producing collagen, and enhancing your skin’s glow and improving dull skin.
Lumixa gel contains a patented fluorophore – a chemical compound excited by light. It has a specific energy profile that is effective at settling skin reactivity and stress, preventing and combatting inflammation, and regenerating and revitalising the skin.
LED together with FLE
While LED uses a single continuous light wavelength, FLE covers a wide spectrum of wavelengths at the same time. LED delivers a blue light, and FLE generates green, yellow and red. FLE interacts with different parts of the epidermis (top layer of the skin) and dermis (the skin underneath the epidermis). 48 Hours Prior
- No cosmetic injections in the treatment area.
3 Days Prior
- No recent sun exposure and sunbeds.
- Stop using cosmeceutical retinol and AHA/BHA.
2 Weeks Prior
- Topical prescription retinol must be stopped two weeks prior.
- Must not have an active cold sore.
- No waxing, laser or IPL in the area.
- If you are/have taken Accutane, or any other acne drug, you must stop use 6 months prior to treatment.
No preparation on active homecare is needed.
24 Hours Post
- Keep cool.
- Keep hydrated, increase water intake to 8 glasses per day.
- Avoid steam, saunas and spa pools.
- Avoid exercise and swimming.
- Avoid any activities that would cause excessive perspiration.
1-5 Days Post
- Continue with prescribed Balense or Aesthetics Rx Homecare Products and SPF 50+ Sunscreen.
- Avoid use of cosmeceutical retinol.
- Avoid Exfoliation.
5 Days Post
- Gently exfoliate using Aesthetics Rx Exfoliating Cleanser or Enzyme Mask.

Are there any side effects with Lumixa?
Lumixa has minimal side effects. For those with sensitive skin, mild redness may occur due to the heat. Some clients might notice temporary darkening of freckles or sunspots, but this fades after completing the treatment.
Is Lumixa painful? Is it safe?
Lumixa is completely safe! It’s a gentle, pain-free treatment that works using the power of light. The gel stays on the surface and isn’t absorbed, making it non-invasive. Unlike some treatments that make your skin more sensitive to the sun (photosensitising), Lumixa does not increase sun sensitivity, so it can be safely performed all year round.
What is Inflammageing & Chronoageing?
Inflammageing: This refers to ongoing, low-level inflammation in the skin that happens as we age. Over time, this can lead to skin damage, including dryness, weakened skin structure, breakdown of collagen and elastin, a compromised skin barrier, and the appearance of sunspots.
Chronoageing: This is the natural ageing process that happens due to internal factors like hormone changes and the way our cells and proteins function over time. It leads to a decrease in collagen and elastin production, causing the skin to lose volume, become drier, and develop a rougher texture.
When will I start seeing results from Lumixa treatment?
You may start to notice improvements during the 5-week treatment course (one session per week), with the most visible results typically appearing around 12 weeks after your first session.
Will I need more than one Lumixa treatment, and are maintenance sessions recommended?
Depending on your skin concerns and goals, additional sessions may be needed. Regular maintenance treatments are also recommended to sustain and prolong your results.
