Cosmetic Injectables

Anti-wrinkle Injections

Pre-treatment preparation

Medications and supplements designed to increase blood flow can increase your risk of bruising. Alcohol can also increase bruising risk.

  • Do not use blood-thinning medications such as aspirin or ibuprofen for 3 – 4 days prior to treatment.
  • Avoid herbal and vitamin supplements for 7 days prior.

Post-treatment care

  • Maximise facial movement (frowning, eyebrow raises and squinting) for 30 minutes following your treatment, to draw the muscle relaxant into the tissue.
  • Avoid facial treatments, and don’t rub or massage the treatment area for 24 hours after your treatment. You may gently cleanse with cotton.
  • Avoid lying down for four hours.
  • Avoid exercise on the day of your treatment.
  • Some clients experience a mild headache following anti-wrinkle injections. If this occurs, you may use paracetamol but please avoid anti-inflammatory medication (ibuprofen, aspirin) as this could increase your risk of bruising.

Dermal Filler (including lip enhancement)

Pre-treatment preparation

DAY OF CONSULTATION

Advise our doctors and nurses if you are taking blood thinning medications (such as aspirin, warfarin or clopidogrel etc), regardless of whether you are expecting to have treatment or just a consultation.

12 HOURS PRIOR

Shave the treatment area if required.

24 HOURS PRIOR

Do not drink alcoholic beverages.

7 DAYS PRIOR

Avoid chemical peels and needling

Note – Please advise your Registered Nurse Injector if you have ever had cold sores or carry the herpes virus.

Post-treatment care

IMMEDIATELY POST TREATMENT

Apply a cool compress for 15 minutes to an hour if required.
LED Light Therapy may be used to help swelling and bruising.
Take paracetamol as needed.

24 HOURS POST

Mineral makeup can be applied where necessary using a clean brush.
Do not rub or massage the treated area for 24-48 hours.
Minimise alcohol, caffeine, blood thinning medications and vitamin supplements for 24 hours following treatment, as these may worsen swelling and bruising.
Avoid exercise.

2 WEEKS POST

Visit your cosmetic injector for a review appointment.
Avoid microdermabrasion, chemical peels and needling in the area.

Note- Following treatment, you may experience redness, swelling and tenderness in the treatment area. This is normal and will resolve within 24-48 hours.

Bruising at the injection site is normal and should clear within ten days.

The treatment area may have the appearance of ‘unevenness’ immediately following treatment, due to swelling and bruising. This will settle. If any unevenness remains after ten days, please contact the clinic for a review appointment.

Viral infections such as cold sores may be reactivated by some treatments. We advise taking L-lysine daily for two to three days prior to and after your treatment if you do have a history of cold sores.

If your cold sores do reactivate, which is uncommon, your GP can prescribe medication to assist healing of the breakout.
